Her katmana ayrı hareketler verebiliyoruz.

Toon Boom Harmony & Storyboard 7

Sistem: Windows, Linux ve macOS
Toon boom firması tarafından piyasaya ayrı ayrı sürülen Harmony ve Storyboard 7 pro programları entegreli çalışabilmektedir. Bazı animasyon stüdyoları tarafından kullanılan TB Harmony programı 2d animasyon programı kategorisinde yer almaktadır. Palet ve boyama araçlarının başarılı olduğunu söyleyebiliriz. Harmony'nin bir diğer güzel özelliği ise kullanmak istediğiniz 3d görselli import ettiğinizde iki boyuta düşürüyor. Sanal gerçeklik veya oyun ortamlarıyla ilgili başarılı sonuçlar elde edilebiliyor. Storyboard 7 pro ise aslında Toon Boom'un kanayan yarasıdır. Harmony'i bilenler "storyboarda ayrıca gerek yok" diyerek yüzüne bile bakmıyor.

Digicel FlipBook Animation

Sistemler: Windows ve macOS
Digicel'in 2d animasyon programı flipbook animation stykz programının bir tık üst versiyonu diyebiliriz.

Tasarım işinde her şeyi düşünmüş. Adobe Rush ile video düzenlemesi yaptığınız aygıtlar üzerinde eş zamanlı çalışma olanağı sunmaktadır. Aylık ortalama 20$ civarında bir fiyatı var.

Autodesk Maya

Adobe After Effects

Bu sektörün mercedes'i diyebiliriz.

Autodesk 3ds Max

Sistemler: Windows, Linux ve macOS
Yine bir autodesk klasiği diyebiliriz. Yaptıkları her program ayrı gündemler oluşturuyor. 3d animasyon programı da denilebilir. Emektar programlar arasında yerini alır diye düşünüyoruz. Maya programından yaklaşık 8 yıl önce piyasaya sürülmüştü. Autodesk firmasının 8 yıllık animasyon ve modelleme deneyimin ardından 3ds max'i kaldırmadılar ama Maya'yı çıkartmışlardı. Hala kullanan tasarımcılar var. Ama bize sorarsanız, tasarımcılarımız Maya varken 3ds'yi tercih etmiyorlar. Kimisi önceden kullandığı için hala 3ds kullanmaya devam ediyor. 3ds ile neler mi yapılabilir? Neler yapılmaz ki..

NeoGeo Blender

Kendilerine has görünümler oluştururlar ve çizimler yaparlar.

Çünkü her sahneyi coğrafi donelerle anlatmak zorunda kalabilirsiniz.

İstediğiniz her şeyi ekrana yansıtamazsınız.

Christmas, Hanukkah, Holiday, Birthday, Cartoon, For Business, Explainer, Business, Presentation, Marketing, Corporate, Slideshow, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Advertisement, For Work, Resume, Intro, Outro, Text Animation, Logo Animation, Promo, Marketing, Youtube Intro, Commercial, For Everything else, Lyric, Music, Doodle, Invitation, Scribing, Photo, Social, Friendship template kategorilerinden bazılarıdır.

Vyond

Sistemler: Windows

2020.03.12 09:48 MalaysianSunshine A little box in time (Trip report : 220ug Europe blotted LSD)

TLDR: First time on LSD. Took half a tab then re-dosed the other half 2 hours later. Mind was blown to bits.
This trip report is very long and detailed. Please sit back, relax and enjoy the story.
Weeks prior to D-Day:
Stress is clouding my emotions. It is as if anxiety owns my life now. I've recently been told I got declined a scholarship to pursue a PhD degree and job applications keep returning in rejections after rejections after rejections. My state of mind is currently toxic.
I have started meditating before I sleep to aleviate the mild insomnia. It works to a certain degree but not well enough. I've been watching videos on YouTube talking about psychedelics and how they get you to confront problems either in the universe or yourself (you're own universe). I am intrigued.
I found out one of my cousins (I'm actually not related to him but let's just call him that), TM, has been as intrigued as I have been and has watched the same videos by the same two channels - if not more. We catch up over Discord and start playing Stardew Valley. We're now at Fall of Year 3. I feel good again.
TM and I started talking about psychedelics more and more. To the point where we've planned out an entire trip. So, I found a source and lied to my family that I was going out to get ice-cream for the muffins my mom had baked earlier that day. I wasn't only going out to get ice-cream, I was also going to go pick up two 220 ug tabs of Europe blotted Lysergic Acid Diethylamine (LSD). Things were falling into place. The pieces to puzzle were there and we just had to put them together to form the picture we so needed to see.
1 week to D-Day:
I catch up with my cousins (TM is amongst them) and they ask how I'm doing. As always I lie and say "I'm going good", but I know inside I'm truely suffering. Axiety rules over my thoughts. I have no say.
We eat brunch; it was alright, nothing to write home about. Being around them has reminded me what it was like when we were younger and enjoying life in each other's presence. Oh, what simpler times those were.
TM decided this was an opputune moment to meet our tripsitter MZ, his partner. So we left the cafe and met MZ at a ramen joint. We ate lunch and said our goodbyes to the other cousins. TM and I accompanied MZ on her quests for the day which gave me ample time to get to know her and be comfortable around her as she was going to be my tripsitter too. I decide it would be a great idea for them to see the place we were going to trip at, my apartment complex.
This building was equipped with two highrise towers symmetrically spaced apart from each other with a 50 metre long 15 metre wide pool between them. Fitted along the bottom and the sides are these ocean blue tiles. The pavement laid around the pool was made of concrete spotted with little gravel and limestone pebbles with gaps between them to allow the passer-by to see the grout in which they reside. I show them both around and they believe it will be a suitable place of us to experience nirvana.
The plan for D-Day:
1) TM sleeps over in my home the night before
2) We drop half a tab each in the morning after breakfast and the other half when we are about to peak on the first half-tab.
3) MZ would meet us after the first half-tab.
4) Enjoy the ride.
1 day before D-Day:
TM comes over. We revisited the pool area and went for a short swim. After dinner we decide to go out and buy some ingredients to make simple wraps for lunch the following day. This is so that we dont have to leave the pool area. Retrospectively, this moment in time felt like an illusion. As though I did not do this willingly. Something had taken control over my actions. Was my anxiety at the wheel of my perverbial car one last time before it's home gets scattered across the universe? Regardless, we returned to my room and decided to play some video games. Stardew Valley of course and a little bit of Civ 5. The night has ended and it was time to start our trip. In that, first we needed a good night's sleep. Sleep well anxiety, while you still can.
D-Day:
We both wake up ecstatic as can be. Adrenaline rushing through our blood vessels. We go downstairs and whip up some eggs and I prepare our lunch for later - a very simple beef pepperoni and chicken slice wrap with cheese and mayonnaise spread inside. TM told me that MZ didn't like green veges, so, I omitted it from hers. Packed and ready for an enternity at the pool we dropped our dose. I left it there (sublingually) for a good 5 minutes before deciding to swallow it with a gulp of cold water.
The beginning of the end. We knew that we would only start to feel the effects as early as 30 minutes in, so, we made our way to the pool area and waited for MZ to arrive. During this time I was in denial. A small part of me wanted to believe that these tabs were duds; they weren't gonna give us anything.
TM started to see a vibrance in his surroundings. He mentioned that there was a distinct pinkish-blueish tinge to the cream walls and pillars around us. I chalked this up as placebo because I was still in denial. Of course, I didn't tell him this. I tried to make sense of it for him, saying, "it's because there's warm light behind us and the blue sky infront of us", "what we're seeing is the marrying of the two tones". I admit... I had no idea what I was trying to convey, I just wanted him to feel comfortable. He mentioned he felt heavy when he would walk around. I agreed with him but in my head I couldn't tell.
MZ arrives and we move our stuff to a library located near the pool area. This floor that the pool is on has a few facilities including a table tennis room, an empty studio (labelled nursery), a library with sofas, tables and chairs, a gym and a laundromat. We get comfortable at a table where MZ would be productive while TM and I would start to lose our minds. I felt a sense of constant unrest at this point. The back of my head was tense and my body was very slightly jittering. In the videos I've watched, some trip reports claim that LSD gives you "the shakes" and so at this very moment my denial started to dissolve. It was real, "something's happening", I thought. We talk about how we're feeling to MZ for a little while.
This was our theoretical peak; TM and I re-dosed. Before, when I halved the first tab I gave him the larger half. So, this time I took the larger half just so we could have similar doses and perhaps experience the same things.
We took off our shirts and headed to the shower before entering the pool. The shower was brisk and woke us up. It made us feel sober. Like when you smoke weed and you get those moments of realisations, those moments of hyperawareness. The pool is just as cold. After a few minutes of 'normal' swimming we stop and talk to each other. TM mentions that the base of the pool is moving. I look down and see the rarefraction of light and the shadows that the waves on the surface of the water produces. They flow as they would in any body of water, I knew this. I didn't say I agreed with him because I didn't want to alter his trip in any way. At this point I felt sort of left out. Again the denial comes back. Am I tripping? Is nothing happening? How naive I must've been at that moment to think that I wasn't about to see the answers to the universe. We swim for a little while longer.
I call for TM and I to move to a tiled bench that is submerged under the water against the longer side of the pool. It was shaded by some coconut trees full of green and yellow fruit. On the back side of this bench was a 1.5 metre drop-off where the water would fall into a drainage system which I believe is how the water gets filtered. Here is where all my denial disappears for good, never to return again. We sit across from each other and look at our faces. I notice that his looks like one half is mirrored onto the other half and when I tilt my head the mirror tilts with me and his face starts to morph. I don't tell him this yet. I just sit there in amazement. He is smilling too. Perhaps he sees a similar thing. After a few uncontrolled giggles he speaks up. He says, "your head is so big and your body is so small". I wasn't sure how to digest this information and so the giggling continued. Short on breath I decide to rest my chin on the top side of the bench. The rest of my body would float on the surface of the water and this is when I first noticed it. The fractals. The patterns. I remain floating there as if there was nothing else in the world but me and the flowing patterns of gravel and limestone pebbles. I tell TM to have a look at the pavement and ask if he sees the same thing and as if I just gave him the key to open his mind he says, "oh yeah! Wow! I've never seen this before". Time felt as though it stood still. We were in awe. He called for me to look down at the water falling into the drainage system. I noticed that I could follow each plane of water that existed. Like when you can switch between clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation in the lady's silhouette optical illusion. I felt I had harnessed a sort of power. TM said to look closer. Look at the tiles and the grout between them. I did as he suggested and to my disbelief the tiles were breathing. The grout was flowing. I sat back on the bench and rested the back of my head on the top of the bench. I stared through the coconut leaves into the milky sky. A surge of electricity ran through my skin. The sky felt like a source of raw power. I couldn't express myself to TM. All I could do was sit there in my own mind and live these livid visions. This was blissful serenity. Listening to the leaves rustle in the mild breeze. Floating on the surface of reality. This was our little box in time. We've captured the essence of nirvana. Little did we know this was only the beginning.
As our skin begins to prune. I see MZ on the other side of the pool. I motion for TM to have a look because words have little meaning. I get closer to her and ask if she could bring my sunglasses because I felt as though it was getting too bright. When she returns, I ask TM for the time. This was the beginning of a mild super loop. We spend our time loitering the pool and tackling philosophical questions as anyone tripping on acid would. MZ asks if we feel hungry and we decided it was prime time to fill our bellies with the wraps I prepared earlier.
Each bite of the wrap felt like I was tasting for the first time. Not only were the colours I saw so vibrant but the tastes of the food I was eating were so succulent. I was enveloped in this sense of security. I was eating. I was staying healthy. I drank water and I was alive. However, who was I? What am I? As we concluded our lunch break MZ returned to the library and we thanked her for her care. I laid flat on the reliving chair and turned my head to watch the single cloud that lay dormant above us. I saw its edges flow and morph until I realised it resembled the shape of an angel. "Who was this?", I asked myself. Is this god? As I'm questioning this cloud's nature it comes closer, close enough that it was just out of my reach. It had the Sun resting right where a human heart would be but on the right instead of the left. Could this be my soul and I was seeing a mirror image of it? I was confused that I could stare right into it's heart (the Sun). Sure, I have my sunglasses on but even with those you shouldn't be able to. As I was beginning to understand it presence, it was as though I have insulted it. Just like that, it lost its shape and floated away. TM and I breifly regained conciousness and decided to go back into the pool. Before doing so, we glanced at the eternity, or so it felt, that was the 50 metre long pool. I noticed the shimmering reflections that were at the surface of the pool. I jumped in. TM stands there admiring the beauty of the infity that presented itself to him. He jumped in.
We swim again giggling to our hearts content. Here is when we noticed our shadows at the base of of the pool. I remember feeling like I was the baby from that one Nirvana album which, as of writting this, I do not know the name of. Here is where the visuals get super intense. I distinctly remember a still image I had during this period of the trip. It was of the sun spewing out a flowing rainbow river diving the image into two. On one side was me, the observer, and on the other side was this paradise that my body was in. Almost as if it was a metaphor for my current state of being. My mind and my body were seperated by a raw power. Closed eye visuals were very apparent at this stage. Every blink was a different fractal or kaleidoscope of patterns. As a wise fish would say, "Just keep swimming", and so I did.
We sat down at the shallow portion of the pool and MZ asked us to read and discuss (if at all possible) some questions TM and I had prepared the night before. Questions like, are we in a simulation, when do we not feel and etc. First of all, I could barely read. Words had no meaning. Second of all, I found it very difficult to speak and keep track of what other people were saying. So we tried our best, TM and I. We ended up not answering many of the questions but we had a decent enough discussion about some of them. TM had the brilliant (and I mean BRILLIANT) idea to head over to the jacuzzi.
Oh boy. The walk there felt as though we were walking super fast but we weren't so sure. Once we got there, we turned on the Jets and sunk into an eternal and blissful daydream. I would say this was just after the peak of the second dose or just about there. We sat down and let our minds wander. I couldn't talk very much because I was so distracted by all the external stimuli entering my cognitive perception. TM and I kept locking eyes briefly and smilling. I think our favourite words at this stage were, 'crazy' and 'surreal'. I remember noticing so much detail in the leaves of the plants that surrounded the jacuzzi. The bubbles that were produced by the Jets were so shiny and glimmered like I've never seen before. TM said he could see eyes in each and every bubble. I couldn't say the same for me. As I lay there with my ears submerged below the surface I had this sense of peace. The noise that the Jets produced ceased to register in my brain and all I could think about was... nothing. For a very brief moment, there was nothing, just silence. I remember thinking I wish I didn't need to breathe so I could stay under water and forget the world ever existed. However, I needed to resurface to ensure I remained alive.
I also remember that I felt as though it was about time for MZ to check on us. As I mentioned before, there was a mild super loop in play. Just like clockwork, there she was, right in cue. TM realised she was there and his first reaction was to say, "isn't it weird that MZ is here right now" unable to tell what he meant I scoffed and said, "What?! Why?", then some confusion arose. MZ documented our state like she did before and decided that we were safe enough to be left alone, and so, she returned to being a productive human while we remained mindless. We followed her out of the jacuzzi and sat down to have something to munch on for tea time. A coconut and Pandan leaf jam (Kaya) with butter sandwich.
We dried up in the scorching heat and decided it was a good time to rest in the shade. With my towel wrapped around my waist we sat down at a pool-friendly sofa and let my inner demons come out to play.
Time ceased to exist. I felt as though I would be stuck in this internal hell for as long as my anxiety deemed it necessary. Prior to today, I was told by multiple sources that the come up on LSD was the worst. Filled with anxiety and self-deprocation, however, this was the come down and I was feeling them now instead of before. I felt as though everyone that walked by us idleing and loling at our own thoughts knew what it was like to trip and I convinced myself that they were tripping as well. I had forgotten that I was in my own apartment complex and briefly thought I was at a trip resort. Everyone here was high. I wasn't alone. This, among other mantras I repeated to myself in my head, allowed me to calm down. I knew at that moment that this would be over in a few hours, and so, I repeated that in my head while focussing on my breathing to help ease the internal pain I was going though.
Everytime I blinked I would get visuals, however, this time they were nasty, scary, distasteful and unpleasant. At one point I saw what looked to me like a trail of insects like cockroaches and ants spiralling into a distant infinity. As soon as that thought arrived in my cognitive space, I felt an itch on my right foot. I looked down and saw a myriad of ants crawling between the hairs on my foot. I have stepped on their path and they decided it was best to crawl over than around my foot. In a short panic I shot out of my seat and stood there briefly before deciding to go and wash my foot with the water from the cold shower. I start walking only to be stoped by the confused words from TM, "where are you going?". Prior to today, I told him that some people forget who they are and who the people around them are while on acid. So, as though my brain was trying it's best to be a supercomputer, it calculated the best answer that would imply I still remember who I was and who TM was. My brain came up with, "There are ants on my feet". Swiftly walking towards the shower, I didn't realise that MZ had just come out of the library and saw me walking away from TM. She walked up to him and they both expressed their equal confusion. While washing my feet I realised how wet they are now and how long I had to wait for them to dry again (forgetting that I could wipe them with the towel around my waist). When they finally caught up to me they questioned my actions and implied their disbelief in my justification. Unknowlingly, I followed them towards the toilet and I sat down on a ledge that held some plant beds. TM sat with me and as MZ left to go back to the library TM mentioned again how weird her presence felt to him. Here is where I realised the mild super loop we were in. MZ would come to check on us ever hour or so and to us it felt as though it was the perfect timing because she would always come when we were on the brink of losing our minds. Everytime she would come to check on us I would ask for the time and it would always be 20 mins past the hour. As of writing this I haven't asked her whether she planned it as such but I believe this timing was due to us leaving to enter the pool at 20 mins past the 12 pm and so she felt it was right to check on us every hour. Regardless, we felt like she was a great presence and it was very grounding to have her around.
MZ has left us to our own minds again and we sat there with our backs turned away from the plants in the bed of soil. I stared at the limestone tiles at our feet as we listened to some classical music TM had on his phone. As though it was all natural, the tiles started to flow and patterns arose to the beat of the music. The layers of sound presented themselves in the form of mirrors in a kaleidoscope. I felt as though the music resonated with the energy of the universe. I was at peace again.
We returned to the library and sat down next to MZ at her table. We revisited the question we had prepared the night before and again couldn't answer them properly. TM found a sense of tranquillity and I realised what I needed to do to face my anxiety. We sat there and talked until 6:30 pm. After which, we said our goodbyes to MZ and returned to the comfort of my room. I forgot to thank her in person but I have done so over text since.
TM and I were dreding the idea of talking to anyone but ourselves. We feared that people would find out we were still high. Regardless, we had dinner with my family and whatever thoughts they were having can we pushed aside as us being tired from a long day at the pool.
Back in my room we laid on my bed and reflected on the experience until 11:30 pm. After which, we slowly drifted into our own slumbers.
P.S. I thoroughly do NOT recommend anyone with any form of anxiety or depression to try tripping on LSD unless you and very sure you will be fine or you are with an experienced tripsitter. I know I have situational anxiety but it was okay for me because I knew I could overcome it. Set and setting is very important. Trip safe everyone.

2020.02.01 00:06 RedDeckWeekly [Standard][Article] Red Week-in-Review

Hello again Spikes! I wanted to thank you all for the responses I got on my last write-up, [The State of Red](https://www.reddit.com/spikes/comments/eti5t1/standard_article_the_state_of_red/) received some good criticism and a ton of great responses.
Starting today, I’ll be doing a weekly roundup of all the Red decks that placed highly or made news from the previous week. As a part of that, I’ll be assessing where the format is at the moment and where I would want to be for the coming weekend. My aim is to always have these out by noon PST on Fridays, so that anyone packing for a flight or heading to an FNM will have the info in their hands while it’s still useful.
🔥🔥🔥
RedDeckWeekly Weekend Review
This weekend was the first where Theros: Beyond Death cards were legal in paper. Except, there weren’t any paper events that I could find! It seems that all the PTQs at Magic Fest New Jersey were in other formats! Disappointing, I know.
Despite that, we have a few telling lists from MTGO.
Before we get into the decks, though, let’s talk about a bit how I’ll be grading them.
Each deck will be assigned a number of points based on a few different categories. They are (in descending order of importance):
Power Level – 10 Points
This is always going to be difficult to categorize and apply a number to, but it’s probably the most important part of this discussion. Whenever I say Power Level, that’s shorthand for “the strength of these cards against the known metagame” plus “the raw strength/efficiency/versatility of each of the cards in the deck on average.” When it comes to Power Level, I’ll be considering 1) the way that each card in the deck matches up against each other card in the format, 2) how powerful each card is in a vacuum, and 3) how well the 75 form a cohesive game plan.
Sideboard – 5 Points
All good decks rise and fall on the strength of their sideboards. I would argue that the construction of a sideboard, and the proper utilization of that sideboard, is the most difficult part of competitive Magic. I could say that building and utilizing a sideboard for a Red aggressive deck is even harder than building one for either white or blue decks, because we don’t have OP and extremely prejudiced hate cards like [[Aether Gust]] that slot into any deck that can cast them, but I won’t. I won’t say that.
Redness– 4 Points
After quality you have to judge the heart.
Only the Reddest of Red Decks will earn all the points here.
Any deck which earns 4/4 points will be honored with the [[Fireblast]] Award of Excellence. The Fireblast Award is reserved for those decks who not only set their opponents ablaze but also ignite the light behind a [[Rakdos Cackler]]’s eyes. Each is a torch of excellence.
Record in a Premier-Level Event – 1 Point
This point is reserved for Red Decks who place highly in a premier-level event. I reserve the right to throw this one around haphazardly, but I won’t be giving it to any deck that wins a preliminary, 5-0s a league, puts a player into Mythic, or Top 8s a small non-PTQ event without winning that event.
The Full Scale – 20/20 Points
I’ll also be applying letter grades to each deck based on the points they have earned out of 20:
The letter grade exists only as a way of talking about decks in comparison to one another. For example, if we talk about a 16 versus a 12, those could sound very close or very far away from one another, depending on context. But when I say “an A deck versus a B- deck,” I think you get a strong sense that one is better than the other.
The scale is designed to prioritize good deckbuilding above all else. Flavor, results, and number of Mountains is obviously important to me, but those things shouldn’t result in me giving an A to a deck that could never have a shot at winning any given tournament.
An important note: This scale was designed entirely by me, this morning, without leaving my bed. I’m sure there’s a different way to do it. I’m open to any and all suggestions as to how to do this in a better way.
Now. Onto the decks!

Week in Review // Jan 24-30, 2020
Our first four lists were part of the 1/27 MTGO Standard League 5-0 deck dump. You can find the full list of decks [here.](https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/MTGO-standings/standard-league-2020-01-27)
[Gruul Adventures by Chayajom]([https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2709846#paper\\](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2709846#paper))
A [[Trusty Machete]] if there’s ever been one. If you own [[Questing Beast]], [[Stomping Ground]], [[Fabled Passage]], AND [[Embercleave]], you can do no better than this. If you don’t own those cards, I’m skeptical that you should purchase them only to play this deck.
This seems like a solid metagame call if you’re looking to beat Mono-Red (gasp!) and other creature decks. [[Lovestruck Beast]], [[Bonecrusher Giant]], and [[Klothys, God of Destiny]] put the smaller creature decks in a vice they can’t escape.
I have two main issues with this 75, though.
  1. When is [[The First Iroan Games]] better than any other three-drop? When would you rather have Games instead of a [[Gruul Spellbreaker]]? The answer, I think, is never.
  2. The sideboard is a soup of midrange cards that don’t point in any particular direction. Where is [[Cindervines]]? Where would you want exactly two copies of [[Cosmotronic Wave]]?
Final Grade: 14/20. B.
  1. Power Level: 8/10
  2. Sideboard: 2/5
  3. Redness: 4/4
  4. Premier Event Placement: 0/1
[Grim Initiate Aggro by Kirblinxy](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2709841#paper)
There are quite a few interesting takes here. A two-and-two split of [[Phoenix of Ash]] and [[Scorch Spitter]]? Four [[Shock]]?
You know what I’m about to tear this deck apart for, though. THREE EMBERCLEAVES? Can’t be havin it, mate. It’s your best card. Play four or play a different deck altogether.
The more I see [[Embereth Shieldbreaker]] in sideboards the less I like it. The flavor text on that card says “Courage is the only shield I need.” A strong take, but one I agree with. Leave the Shieldbreakers at home—courage is all you need.
In all seriousness, I have never boarded this card in, drawn it, and felt good about it. Even when you get to snipe an oven on turn 1, you’re still stuck with a goblin piker who still dies to any random kitty. I could maybe give a pass to the Shieldbreaker if you were also playing [[Barge In]]. Then maybe you can convince me that when you combine your two worst cards, they actually do something. Until then, I’m off it.
All that said, I like Phoenix in this build of the deck, especially with that twenty-first land to facilitate the extra three-drops. I just wish they would have gone up to a full four Phoenix and been done with it.
Final Grade: 14/20. B.
  1. Power Level: 7/10
  2. Sideboard: 3/5
  3. Redness: 4/4
  4. Premier Event Placement: 0/1
[Cavalcade 2020 by sneaky robot](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2709835#paper)
I love a smorgasbord. A little [[Heartfire]], a little [[Lava Coil]].
This deck was constructed by someone who despises the Legendary card type and all its drawbacks. Splitting every legendary permanent could seem like a huge level up when you’re brand new to Magic. I can’t have two of these in play, so why would I play four? That’s just gonna lead to feel-bads.
It’s a fine theory, but we know that’s not how things work.
But I like the experimentation here. Heartfire has felt very close to being a card for most of its existence. Maybe [[Anax, Hardened in the Forge]] can push it over the edge into playability?
Final Grade: 12/20. B-
  1. Power Level: 6/10
  2. Sideboard: 2/5
  3. Redness: 4/4
  4. Premier Event Placement: 0/1
[Rix Maadi Aristocrats by HEROtsuka](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2709843#paper)
[[Mayhem Devil]] is a monster after mine own heart.
This list incorporates a new sacrifice outlet in [[Woe Strider]]. To take advantage of the bonus graveyard synergies, [[Rix Maadi Reveler]] replaces [[Rankle, Master of Pranks]] entirely.
The additional sacrifice outlet lets us go up to a whopping five mainboard steal effects, with another steal effect in the board, to ensure that the blood rituals will never end.
Creature decks of any variety should be a cakewalk for this monster.
[[Blood Crypt]] enthusiasts, look no further.
I recommended a different, redder version of this last week, but in all honesty, this is probably the better deck.
Final Grade: 16/20. A-.
Power Level: 9/10
Sideboard: 4/5
Redness: 3/4
Premier Event Placement: 0/1
🔥🔥🔥
Next up! The following decks are taken from the MTGO Standard Showcase Challenge on 1-26-20. You can find the full list of decks [here.](https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/MTGO-standings/standard-showcase-challenge-2020-01-26)
[Rakdos Aristocrats by Brunister](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2705419#paper)
This list felt just slightly worse than the list above, but in the interest of completeness, I had to at least mention it. Sideboard Tibalt in Aristocrats is seems great, though.
Final Grade: 14/20. B.
  1. Power Level: 7/10
  2. Sideboard: 4/5
  3. Redness:2/4
  4. Premier Event Placement: 1/1
[Three Embercleaves by Jpsn54](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2705418#paper)
Outside of the obvious one-card error, this seems solid, but less synergistic than other builds. I’m interested in what the deckbuilder’s reasoning could have been for splitting [[Phoenix of Ash]] and [[Robber of the Rich]].
[[Shock]] and [[Bonecrusher Giant]] tell me that this list might be tuned for the mirror. If that was the case, though I would expect to see more Bonecrushers in the side. Robber is also an excellent card in the mirror, assuming your opponent doesn’t have the shock.
Is this where we’ve come, already? Red metagaming against Red? Damn shame.
All that said, this is a great example of where Red might have to go to survive.
Final Grade: 16/20. A-.
  1. Power Level: 8/10
  2. Sideboard: 4/5
  3. Redness:4/4
  4. Premier Event Placement: 0/1
[Capital R Red by Kasa](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2705423#paper)
Look at this thing of beauty. Sixteen hasters, four [[Embercleave]]s, eight sources of card advantage. Seventeen Basic Mountains, for the love of god, and not a tap land in sight.
It looks alarmingly good—at first glance.
Someone missed the boat, though.
[[Anax, Hardened in the Forge]] is nowhere to be found.
Here I think we have the most important question of the present moment. Can we play an [[Embercleave]] deck without the best red card in the newest set?
Obviously cutting Anax wasn’t enough to prevent Kasa from Top-8ing this one tournament, but will it be tenable down the road? Maybe [[Runaway Steam-Kin]] is actually what needs to go, and Robber-Anax is the correct configuration. Maybe Kasa’s found the truth.
Maybe the truth will change from week to week.
I’ll be keeping a close eye on that distinction among the lists as the metagame evolves.
Past that, there’s another great adaptation. Three sideboard [[Redcap Melee]]s indicate a great amount of respect for opposing All-Mountain mages.
Final Grade: 18/20. A.
  1. Power Level: 9/10
  2. Sideboard: 4/5
  3. Redness:4/4
  4. Premier Event Placement: 1/1
And there we have it! The highest rated deck of all time on RedDeckWeekly. Until next time, anyway.
Our last deck comes from the 1-30-20 MTGO Standard League 5-0 deck dump. You can find the embarrassingly small number of full lists [here.](https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/MTGO-standings/standard-league-2020-01-30)
[Torbran and Anax by Shadowhawk9](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2720070#paper)
The most interesting part of this list is the presence of four [[Torbran, Thane of Red Fell]] without his trademark partners [[Cavalcade of Calamity]] and [[Chandra, Acolyte of Flame]]. Outside of that, four Bonecrushers means that you can get up to the full eight shocks, if you really hate losing to the mirror.
This list actually appears to be preboarded against Red. The only card I might consider bringing in for the mirror would be Lava Coil, and then only on the draw.
Final Grade: 17/20. A-.
  1. Power Level: 8/10
  2. Sideboard: 4/5
  3. Redness:4/4
  4. Premier Event Placement: 1/1
🔥🔥🔥
Moving Forward
I recommend you [take a look](https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/MTGO-standings/standard-showcase-challenge-2020-01-26) at the rest of the decks from the 1-30 deck dump.
It’s dismal stuff, friends.
[[Daxos, Blessed by the Sun]], [[Oath of Kaya]], and [[Archon of Sun’s Grace]] abound. It’s been a long time since we only had to deal 18 points of damage to kill our opponent, and those days don’t appear to be coming back.
If there is anything you take from this article today, it should be that the metagame has definitely shifted slightly against us in the past week.
Luckily, these are just the same old enemies wearing new faces.
[[Tibalt, Rakish Instigator]] will put a damper on those lifegain decks. We will have to do the rest.
Last Words and What I’d Play
I’ve run super long here, and we all know I prefer a shorter game. Here is my [decklist](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2724544#paper) for the coming weekend, both in paper and on the ladder. Later today I’ll drop my sideboard guide for this list over on twitter.com/reddeckweekly.
If you made it this far—thanks for sticking around! I’ll see you back here same time next week, when I’ll do it again.

2019.10.03 17:06 mariusgod Not everyone has the same phase in life

I started dating at 29. The first person I dated was a college friend and it didn't work out.
I told my girl bestfriend that I'm gay at 30. Then my highschool and college friends. Men and women who are very accepting and have partners who accepted me as well.
Dated again a few men around the area. Also, didn't work out.
Met someone online. And less than a week we decided to go out. We agreed to make it official after a few months.
Told my mom that I'm gay and showed her his picture. Some would say mom knows when her child is gay. Apparently not everyone. The first thing she said was: Bakit lalaki naman anak? And the only thing I said: Alam ko na mahal mo ako. She still can't believe that her son is gay (at umaasa pa rin na babae ang pipiliin ko). But at least she's accepting and love me the same.
My partner already introduced me to his parents. And I apologized to him that I can't introduce him yet to mine. And his response made me love him even more: Naiintindihan ko naman. Not everyone has the same phase in life. To me what's important is we are both happy.

Hi,
I just would like to share na hindi ko na kaya ituloy ang monthly payment ng aking car loan. Good payor naman ako for the past 11 months and laging may sobrang funds sa account pero nawalan ako ng trabaho so di na kayang i-save pa.
I have a feeling na sana offeran kami ng lower monthly rate like below 25k para at least ma-save. Pero part of me tanggap ko naman na mawawala na talaga sya samin. I treated that car like my baby and ang sakit lang na aalis na sya. It was our fault naman din kasi lowest DP namin sya nakuha plus nasa 37k monthly for 5 years.
So yea, isusurender na namin ang car by Monday.
Tomorrow, we'll have an overnight beach trip with my partner. One last road trip with our baby na di namin kaya panagutan hanggang sa huli.
Only buy a car kung kaya mo na bayaran in full cash. Dahil mentally and emotionally exhausting isipin na mawawala ang car na minahal mo and tinuring mo ng baby.
If you made it this far, salamat sa pagbabasa.
UPDATE (JULY 29, MONDAY):
We went to the bank branch to surrender the car. We explained our reason and the officer or branch head (i forgot to ask her her position) expalined to us na pangalawa pa lang kami na nagsurrender ng car loan sa branch nila and ung first one na nadsurrender, di inaccept ang reqiest to surrender. Kinabhan ako sympre but the officer or BH emailed our details to the loan department at the bank's head office. The officer or BH said that the person from the loan dept will probably call us via cellphone or the O/BH will call us once she receives a response email.
So umalis na kami sa bank then after 30 minutes we received call from the loan dept and asked us what happened, what are the reasons why we can't continue the loan, etc.
Then the person from the loan dept explained that our credit score will have a bad remark BUT hindi sya mapupunta sa "negative" side. Bale parang good credit score pa din daw but may bad remark lang daw. Then we need to tell the bank branch na di na we'll close the automatic debit (ADA) para sa car loan and we have a choice to keep the passbook bank account with their bank or close it.
And by August 2 (Friday), need namin isurrender ang unit sa head office ng bank sa Makati with the susi (and spare key), ORCR, and 2 valid IDs para sa pirmahan ng mga contract for surrender.
Sa wakas! Meron na kaming peace of mind. I'm so happy the bank accepted our request to surrender the unit. And mas napagaan loob ko na hindi kami magkakaroon ng bad credit score maybe because noong time na may budget naman kami, sobra sobra pinapasok namin and on time kami magbayad. And i think may plus points pag in good faith mo isusurrender ang car and plus points din siguro na days before ng due date nagrequest for surrender.
Once again, maraming maraming salamat sa inyong lahat for making me feel good sa mga panahong sobrang down ako.

2019.07.07 18:05 Reddentary_Lifestyle Skywrath Mage Guide by Reddentary_Lifestyle - Adaptations to the 7.22 Meta

Hi everyone,
Skywrath Mage started seeing some play in Epicenter 2019 after getting 0 picks in MDL Disneyland and the Starladder Minor. He was picked 5 times in Epicenter: Twice by Secret, Twice by Infamous twice, and once by Fnatic. His overall winrate was 20% (1-4). Skywrath was then picked zero times in TI9 Open Qual, and I just watched a decently well-farmed mid Skywrath fall apart to Team Empire in the TI9 Closed Qualifier. Watching back these pro matches, it's striking how much time Skywrath players spend standing around in the mid to late game because their hero is too squishy to initiate.
I do understand that trying to force a character into the meta just doesn't work, but I also feel like I haven't seen Skywrath players correctly adapt to Skywrath's weaknesses. After much writing, I present to you my personal build guide for wrecking players on Skywrath, plus explanations of how and why I made a lot of these item choices. I've also included a basic outline detailing pos 4/5 Skywrath play.

My goal with this post is to help everyone understand that there are alternatives to Rod of Atos and mana regen items that will make your Skywrath a whole lot stronger.

My build (pos 2 / 3)
Early Game:
Tangos, 3 Null Talismans, Boots of Speed, Wind Lace, Chainmail, Observer Ward; Pos 2 = Bottle, Pos 3 = Clarity Potions
>>Early game focus should be on last hitting, denying, and using Arcane Bolt to create space to farm.
Mid Game:
Boots of Travel, Kaya, Aghanim's Scepter, TP scrolls
>>Mid game focus should be on increasing farm, pushing waves, and using Travels + TPs to refresh mana and quickly help in team fights. This is when Skywrath is at his strongest.
Late Game:
Solar Crest, Ghost Scepter and/or Aeon Disk or BKB, Yasha and Kaya
>>Late game Skywrath is not as strong as he was in the mid game. This is why your late-game focus is about enabling your position 1, outlasting enemy BKBs or other sustain, dealing poke damage until the enemy cores' BKBs are on cooldown, and then unleashing hell with all of your spells.
Situational:
Blink Dagger, Aether Lens, Scythe of Vyse, Veil of Discord, Ethereal Blade

------------------
Edit: Based on requests for a build guide. It's hard for me to pin down an exact guide since really the goal is to adapt to our opponents, but I tried anyway.
Here are some general rules:
Pos 2: 4/1/3/1 with Ult at lvl 9. Get ult earlier if you need to gank a lane and you have a teammate with a >2 second stun.
Pos 3: 4/2/4/1 and 30% XP with Ult at lvl 11 if you don't have a stunner to assist. 4/1/2/1 with Ult at lvl 8 with an allied stunner in lane.
Pos 4: 1/4/2/1 with Ult at lvl 8. Get ult earlier only if your lane partner can stun.
Pos 5: 1/4/2/1 with Ult at lvl 8. Get ult earlier only if your lane partner can stun.
------------------

1) Forget about Rod of Atos.
I think there is a common myth that playing Skywrath is all about solo kills and massive Flares, but until the end game when +600 Mystic Flare is absolutely ridiculous, your ult is ONLY an assist in team fights. Your teammate's stuns are all the Rod of Atos you will ever need. SK stun, Axe call, Ember chains, Jakiro frost, Mars spear, Morph Str Adaptive, Void bubble, ES stun, Storm vortex, Windranger shackle, Earthshaker anything...why invest all that precious early gold on something redundant? Good Skywraths coordinate with their teammates to use their ultimate. Unless you have a good stun initiation, DO NOT cast Mystic Flare. Mystic Flare is actually a trap at early levels which kills your mana and costs you your sustain damage combo from Q, W, and E.

If you're still unsure about what I'm saying, dotabuff.com shows that Rod of Atos as a 54.12% winrate on Skywrath in patch 7.22, whereas BoTs have a 69.57% win rate and Solar Crest has a 63.72% winrate.

2) Forget about Mana Regeneration.
I've watched dozens of Immortal players try to out-regenerate Skywrath's insane mana costs. Here's the truth: without a Bloodstone + YnK + Sheepstick + a bunch of other expensive crap, you CANNOT regenerate enough mana on Skywrath. The real answer to your mana problems is that you use the gold you would have spent on Rod of Atos to buy Boots of Travel. BoT's not only enable crazy movement speed for better positioning, they let you return to base all of the time to refill mana. Hold 1-2 TP scrolls when you're farming, and when you're out of mana just TP scroll to base and BoT's back to lane. BoTs + TP scrolls also allow you to leave and return to teamfights quickly, enabling you to dump your mana pool on the enemy twice in a fight. You can repeat this every 80 seconds.

3) Boots of Travel (BoT) Skywrath is surprisingly good at farming.
Lvl 10 you'll want +30% XP since your movement speed will be covered by BoT's + Windlace. The XP bonus enables a quick Lvl 15 +1 arcane bolt. We need the 2x bolts to ramp up our farm, and our goal is to get Aghanim's for the 3rd arcane bolt. 2x-3x arcane bolts with BoT's for mana @ base allows us to demolish lanes and neutral camps so that we don't fall off in the late game. Don't waste your mana on W when farming. With your high int, spell amp from nulls, kaya, and +1 arcane bolt, you can clear neutrals in just a few arcane bolts and a some right clicks. Aghanim's further increases your clear speed to only a couple arcane bolts. At this point in the game your mana pool should be enough to clear 2-3 waves of lane creeps plus 4-6 camps before TP-ing to base for a quick mana refill.

4) Solar Crest?
You will have a lot of spam damage with Q in the late game, and the enemy team WILL get BKBs to stop you. The purpose of Solar Crest is to 1) give you a ton of armor (13.6 w/ the agility bonus), 2) give you a ton of stats and good movespeed, and 3) enable your pos 1 to team fight. All that for under 4000 gold! Your job in the big team fights is to enable your carry with Solar Crest + silence + long-range spell poke. After the enemy BKBs end, use your 480-530 movespeed to position yourself and unleash Aghanim's + Q, W, and E to annihilate the enemy as they flee. Save your ultimate until a teammate makes a big stun play, because once you YOLO a Mystic Flare your mana will disappear.

5) Which defensive item(s) do I pick?
Movement speed can only get you so far. At low ranks you can buy Shadow Blade and life is easy, but good teams will use vision + blink daggers to close that gap. Ghost Scepter is almost always the best choice for survival since it's so cheap and effective, but when they have a Lion, a Lina, a Tiny, an OD, a Nyx, or a Dagon, the Ghost Scepter really falls off, unless you go Eth Blade because it's super fun XD. Aeon Disk gives you a 2nd chance against blink dagger heroes while your movespeed + silence keeps the enemy at a distance and your spells / right-click prevents a second blink-initiation. BKB is specifically for escaping problem meta heroes; namely Mars ultimate, Invoker spam, KotL ultimate, Leshrac spam, Morphling combos, Storm jumps, and Zeus spam.

6) What if I want to play pos 4 / 5 Skywrath?
Not only have pro teams struggled to make pos 2/3 Sky work, but pos 4/5 Sky have been EVEN WORSE. The trouble with pos 4/5 is that without any intelligence ramp or items, your Q damage is pathetic and your Flare costs too much mana for your mana pool. However, W is a decent slow from range and E is a very good silence. Support Skywrath players should build 1/4/3/1 and +30% xp at lvl 10. I know that sounds weird but your Concussive Shot deals far more damage @ low int and the silence + amp is great for ganks. Arcane Bolt is for tracking enemies who run through trees. Support players wont be farming hard and thus won't get as much use out of Travels. Instead, build:
  1. 1-2 Null Talisman, obs/sentries, tangos, a few clarities, smoke, dust, raindrop may be helpful
  2. Tranquil Boots + Soul Ring for early harassment, or Arcane Boots --> transfer Energy Booster into Aether Lens or make Guardian Greaves for full support mode.
  3. Glimmer Cape, or Blink Dagger, and/or Ghost Scepter
  4. Veil of Discord, or Drums of Endurance, and/or Necronomicon (detection, team fights, helps w/ push and farm)
  5. Shiva's Guard, or Solar Crest, or Dagon 1-5 (combo with % spell amp from E + lvl 20 talent)
  6. Scythe of Vyse
Glimmer / Blink Dagger lets you sneak into the enemy backlines and unleash hell with silence + Dagon + spell burst. With practice, you can press Q --> W --> E --> Veil --> Shiva's / Dagon in < 1/2 a second for maximum value. Your Q and W spells have travel times so although you cast them first, they will hit AFTER your silence lands so all the damage gets amplified. Ghost Scepter / Glimmer let you escape.

Final fun tip! Find a friendly Lion player with Blink. At lvl 18 + Lion Agh's, you'll both have 20 second cooldowns on your ultimates, so you can delete players with this combo all the time:
Lion: Blink, Hex, Spike, Finger
Skywrath: Blink, Silence (spell amp), Q, W, Flare

I hope this guide helps you take your Skywrath Mage from underwhelming to absolutely broken levels of overpowered, and will help pros better understand how to win with Skywrath in TI9 and beyond.

GL HF everyone,

2019.05.12 04:39 JacenVane [Modern] [Tournament Report] Local $1k Top 4 with Bant Spirits

Local $1k Top 4 with Bant Spirits

Decklist

Five Months out: SCG Worcester, January 2019. I’m on Bant Spirits. I love that deck—the ability to switch between Tempo and Aggro gameplans is fantastic, and Collected Company and Spell Queller are both some of my favorite Magic cards. The deck has just gotten a huuuuge power boost from Deputy of Detention, and I’m hyped to play it at one of the largest events I’ll go to this year. I 2-3-1 drop. (Although the Staff accidentally left me in the Main Event for at least two more rounds.) I beat Tron and Dredge, losing to Tron, Dredge, and Phoenix, and tying with Death and Taxes.
I’m not a Spike. Well, not exactly. I’m somewhere between a Melvin and a Spike. I enjoy the process of playing Magic. I enjoy sitting down, shuffling up, and playing cards. Hell, I enjoy winning Playing cards with friends is a tradition that dates back hundreds of years. Magic is just the newest and maximally fun iteration on the painting of dogs playing poker. More importantly, I strongly agree with the claim that if there are Aliens out there, they probably play a game very similar to Magic, in that they probably have a game that is built around the First-In, Last-Out Stack. I did not enjoy this Modern meta. It was not interactive, it was not ‘fair’, and it did not incentivize decks that I enjoyed playing, or playing against.
I went to Standard sides for the second half of Saturday, and garnered a 9-2-1 record with Mono Blue over the course of the weekend. (Or something similarly lopsided, it’s been a while.) Before Burchett won the Mythic Championship, it was fantastic to pick people’s gameplans apart with a deck that very few knew how to play against. I joked that I would ragequit Modern, work on getting an L1 Judge Cert, (although School happened immediately after Worcester, and so I still haven’t taken the exam) and play Standard until Rotation.
I did so.

Ten Days Out: There’s supposed to be a Horizons Win-A-Box at a local Con that weekend. I have Arclight Phoenix by this point, after building the Standard version, and I already own the Thing in the Ice’s. Eldritch Moon was my first set, and full of Modern sleeper hits. I ask some questions about the list in the Phoenix discord server, and in the Spirits discord, I ask people if I should play Spirits (several local Top 8’s previously), Abzan Company (I know that deck inside and out, but it’s terrible right now), Phoenix (it’s the best deck, but everyone will be prepared, and I have literally six matches in with it), and Death’s Shadow (which I suck at). Phoenix people tell me to play Phoenix or Spirits, Spirits people say to play what I know. I pick Spirits.
I type up my decklist, and it feels really, really good to cast Spell Queller in testing again, even against a goldfish. I name my deck ‘4-Sided Time Cube’, because I haven’t played Modern in literal months, and I’m not going to win shit, so no one other than the Judge will ever see this decklist.
One Week Out: I get to the Con early. There’s a big Optimus Prime replica, some furries, Avengers cosplayers, and a single Magic vendor. I try to buy a Chronicles Concordant Crossroads, but the vendor insists on quoting Legends prices. I pass. A Captain America cosplayer spoils Endgame to the entire hall.
Four people show up to the Win-A-Box. The vendor declines to fire it. (The ad, to be fair, specified a minimum of eight players.) Disappointed, I play one ‘eh fuck it’ match against GBx, and win more by virtue of my opponent being more out of practice than I am. (I miss multiple Geist triggers.)
I shrug, and go home to Finals Week.
The Furries beat up Captain America in the parking lot.

24 Hours Out: My store does back-to-back Standard and Modern FNM’s. I show up five minutes late to Standard, and take a Round One match loss, as there is no bye to play against. My girlfriend doesn’t think that competitive magic is as critically important as I do, apparently. Round two I get a bye, so I boot up Arena. Taking pity on me, the clerk rolls over my entry fee to Modern. I try to abstract out my thinking to answers and threats and synergies, rather than Merfolk Tricksters and Lavarunners—after all, I’m woefully behind on Modern prep, and I’m probably going to 0-2 drop tomorrow.
I win my only real round of Standard, to a testing partner and classmate on Mono-Red. Small victories, I guess.
Modern FNM goes better. I go 3-1, notably beating Phoenix, which makes me feel good, even though one of the local salt mines was correct for once and it was all luck. I ask the shop about Spirits vs Phoenix vs Shadow vs Abzan again, and get the same answer: Play What You Know. Someone dares me to play Bant, but in the deckbox for Death’s Shadow. I do it for the lulz. Some friends go home to test, I go home to sleep.

The Morning Of: I grab last week’s decklist. 4-Sided Time Cube, or ‘Literally Just Stock Bant Spirits With A Bad Sideboard’. I try to convince myself to add a third Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, but then I’d have to write on my printed decklist with pen. It’s not worth the effort. Someone from my University’s Magic Club points out that I’m playing Negates instead of Dovin’s Veto, so I have to take out the pen anyway, but I still don’t add a Thalia. I run to Dunkin Donuts, grab a Red Bull, and it’s time for the Player’s Meeting.

Player’s Meeting: These are literally always the same. Twenty-nine players. Five rounds. Don’t cheat. Go.

Match One: They play a tapped Watery Grave and pass. Mentally, I put him on Esper Control. I play a Windswept Heath into Temple Garden into Noble Hierarch. “Death’s Shadow?” My opponent says. I laugh, he laughs, he casts Path to Exile on my Hierarch. “That doesn’t do what I thought it would, did it?”. I win G1 by pretending to be Merfolk.
Game two, he has a Supreme Verdict when I don’t have a Spell Queller. The next turn, he casts Teferi with countermagic backup. “Dovin’s Veto.” I say. He nods. He starts to win off of a Celestial Colonnade. I vial in a Phantasmal Image, copy his Colonnade, animate it, and it eats a Field of Ruin. The next turn, I try to use my Teferi, Time Raveler on his Kaya that’s about to kill me, and he reminds me that I can’t do that. I concede. I count my lands. I have drawn fifteen out of my twenty-one lands.
Game three, I win off of turn 2 Geist of Saint Traft. We joke about Death’s Shadow, and I turn in the match slip.
IN: 2x Dovin’s Veto, 1x Teferi, Time Raveler
Veto is great at defending against, well, almost all of their cards. Teferi was a mistake, because I can’t read. To be fair, I was homeschooled.
OUT: 2x Path to Exile, 1x Phantasmal Image
I saw no Snapcaster Mages, and Colonnade is a very slow threat. If they start activating Colonnade, it’s either a desperation move, or I’m already going to lose. I don’t like Image when there aren’t opposing targets to copy, but it’s still a very powerful card, and there wasn’t anything in my sideboard I wanted to replace the second copy with.

Match Two: Turn one, Amulet of Vigor. I have a Hierarch. They have another Amulet of Vigor. I have a Geist. He kills me with a Titan. “Oof.” I say. “Yeah.” He replies. I’m slightly embarrassed to say that I’ve never played against the deck before, so it probably took a solid five minutes for me to try to remember how the deck works. Fortunately, I look like a sixteen year old child (I’m twenty-one) and so my opponent was okay with the fact that I’m stupid and don’t know how Amulet Titan works.
Game two, I have Mausoleum Wanderer into Thalia into Damping Sphere. He tries to transmute Tolaria West. “I have a Damping Sphere.” He tries to explain that he’s only making a single U off of Simic Growth Chamber, but it doesn’t go how he wants it to go. Eventually I get a Vial up to three, so even if he gets a Titan, I can hit it with Deputy. I grind out the win.
Game three, he gets a turn two Karn, the Great Creator. My Thalia stops him from dropping the Mycosynth Lattice that he Wishes for on Turn 3, but on Turn 4 I get hardlocked out of the game. “It’s fine.” I say. “1-2 drop is already better than I expected.” He insists that we’ll have a rematch in the Top 8.
IN: 3x Damping Sphere, 2x Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, 1x Knight of Autumn
Damping Sphere was amazing. Two of the three of the Amulet players in the room got got by that today. Thalia was OK, but not amazing. I’m not sure it was correct. Knight was great. Ways to blow up Amulets seem good, and it actually saved me from an Engineered Explosives, but that was absolutely because they got greedy in Game 2.
OUT: 2x Geist of Saint Traft, 1x Kira, Great Glass-Spinner, 2x Phantasmal Image, 1x Collected Company
Geist is way too slow for this matchup, and isn’t disruptive at all. There isn’t enough removal to justify Kira, and Image doesn’t do enough. I was boarding in three extra noncreatures, so I shaved a Company. I don’t like going below 28 creatures in a Company list.

Match Three: We recognize each other from the last big local tournament. He laughs about the Death’s Shadow box—at this point, people have heard about it, so it’s not going to get anyone else. I go turn one Hierarch, he goes turn one Hierarch, I win off of going wide with lords.
Game two, we Deputy of Detention each other’s Deputies of Detention for a few turns, before someone finally gets one to stick, and then that person wins because they have all the threats. Spoiler: It was not me.
Game three, I lead with Hierarch, he leads with Vial. He also mulls to five, and although I miss a crucial Vial trigger, I’m able to stick enough lords so that my Spell Quellers can beat his Mantis Riders in combat. He drops. I feel a little bad.
IN: 1x Knight of Autumn, 1x Teferi, Time Raveller
KoA blows up Vials, sometimes it buys you a turn, and occasionally you can beat down with it. It’s gas. Teferi is in there literally just as a sorcery that can bounce a Vial or a guy, and cantrip. Humans goes tall enough that bouncing a Champion can be great, and bouncing a Vial can be key to victory. Also, it can bounce your own stuff in a pinch, like a Deputy if you really have to. So to clarify: I sideboarded this in *just* to be a Sorcery that might eventually Rebound.
OUT: 2x Geist of Saint Traft
Geist is soooo baaaad in this matchup. Basically every card in their deck can block a Geist and trade, most can block it and live. Geist is terrible against Humans.

Match Four: Ugh. This match makes me sad inside, and might legitimately turn me off of Competitive magic for a bit. I get paired against someone I know casually, not super well, but someone who I like and whose opinion I respect. He’s on Neoform, and running hot with it. We sit down and laugh, arguing about who’s favored. (We both feel disadvantaged.) He wins the die roll. Turn one, he casts Serum Visions, giving me a chance to set up Mausoleum Wanderer. He Morphoses, shakes his head, and passes back. I cast a second wanderer, swing for two, and hold up Path mana. He untaps, plays a land, and combos off. Allosaurus Rider resolves, he gets priority, and casts Neoform. “Does Neoform sacrifice as a cost?” I ask. It does. He gets a Griselbrand, and draws seven. I path it. With Path on the stack, he draws seven again, and continues to combo off. “Now I Lightning storm to kill you.” He says. “Yeah sure, I’m just not super familiar with the combo or that card, so can you play it out please?” He shows me the Simian Spirit Guides and the Lightning Storm. I ask to read the Lightning storm, and call a Judge to ask about the activated ability. (Whether or not Lightning Storm ends up with multiple targets, or if discarding one land is enough to redirect the whole spell, which it is.) “Yeah, can I just see the lands please?” I ask again. For some reason, he hands me his entire hand. I think this is where the miscommunication happened—it seems like he thought I was conceding and asking to see how the deck worked. In reality, I was planning to try to fight over the Lightning Storm with the three lands in hand, so I was asking him to actually play out casting and resolving the Lightning Storm. He picks up all the lands in his hand, casts lightning storm, discards all of them. He says that he’s discarding thirteen lands. I discard Cavern, targeting his Griselbrand. He begins to get upset, saying it’s angle shooting, a dick move, and calling the Judge. The Judge says that it’s legal, but seems to also think it’s a dick move.
Game two, he gets a Griselbrand on my turn zero, but decides not to combo off. I shrug, chump block a Griselbrand for a couple of turns, and eventually die.
Game Three, I’m on the play, and I land a turn one Mausoleum Wanderer. He Serum Visions, and I get a turn two damping sphere. He passes. I cast a Vial and a lord, he passes and discards, stuck on two lands. He stays stuck on two, as I eventually get to the point where I can hold up Spell Queller and an Image to copy the Queller. I eventually Company into the Drogskol lock, and beat down. He repeatedly Nourishing Shoal’s to stay alive, pitching both his Autocthon Wurms to stave off death, but it isn’t enough.
He says that he intends to report me to tournament officials for ‘Angle shooting’ and ‘Scummy play’. I’m not sure exactly what he said, but the L1 judging the event decided to pull me aside and say that “If you intend to have any future in the Judge Program, you can’t do things like that.” He refused to take any statement from me, or to explain what exactly he meant. Several people who actually saw the interaction between myself and Neoform Guy all said that they hadn’t seen me do anything wrong in the interaction, and I got permission to write down the names of several people who saw what happened in case anything came of that in the future.
It was a very upsetting round.
IN: 3x Damping Sphere, 2x Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, 2x Dovin’s Veto
Damping Sphere is great against this combo, as it stops them from pretending to be Ad Naus, and killing you all in one turn. I didn’t see Disenchant effects in any of the games, so I assume the deck only plays a few Nature’s Claims, although there’s probably not exactly a stock list yet. I brought in Thalia as she’s just another speedbump for them to deal with, and she’s better than all of the bad cards that we cut. Dovin’s Veto is another card that is pretty good if we don’t get killed on turn one or two, but like, if you intend on allowing your opponent to ever get to two mana, you probably shouldn't be playing Neoform,
OUT: 2x Geist of Saint Traft, 2x Selfless Spirit, 3x Collected Company
Geist is terrible here, it’s too slow. I feel like I’m saying that a lot, and I may cut it going forward. To be honest, I almost cut it for today, but I just wanted to yeet my old Spirits list, and Geist was a part of that. (More on this later.) Selfless doesn’t shape up well—sure, it lets you win combat, and that’s apparently relevant some games, but I didn’t think it was as good as cards I could have brought in. In hindsight, I should have probably left one in, and cut four Collected Companies. Collected Company is terrible by the way. If we hit turn four, I’ve already established a commanding lead, so who cares. I considered Teferi, but it didn’t seem good. It makes the combo awkward, but I didn’t want a three mana piece of interaction.

Match Five: I’m 3-1, so I have nine points and am absolutely *not* locked for Top 8 if I draw, but I have the second-highest seed, so I offer my opponent (another player from my LGS) the draw. I’m still kinda shook from the Neoform player—he was very verbally aggressive, and our games went long, so I haven’t had time to decompress, and feel like that might reflect in my play. My opponent accepts, and privately, I feel like we both probably just made a mistake. I ask a Fish player who drew in to shoot me a text if the round finished early, and my opponent and I run to the Deli to get subs.
We played last night before FNM, and he was on Eldrazi Stompy. I felt slightly unfavored, as Spell Queller is pretty terrible in the matchup. We work on hypothetical sideboard plans for other players who we think will make it into the Top 8. The meta looks pretty friendly for me, apart from the fact that my Amulet Titan opponent made it. It’s Eldrazi Stompy’s guy first Top 8, so I explain what to expect. (No time limit, spectators, deck checks, etc.) He seems excited.
We head back to the shop, and the Amulet Titan player comes up to me and says “The Neoform guy was out of line. I saw what happened, and you’re fine.” That makes me feel a bit better, and I jam some games against Eldrazi Stompy guy.
They post the Top 8. I get in, as eighth seet. Eldrazi Stompy guy is the seventh. I’m happy. I feel like I didn’t deserve it. I feel cheap because I haven’t picked up a Modern deck in months and now I’m in the Top 8 of a $1k. I’m playing a tier two deck that’s just dodged the two best decks in the format—which are also its two worst matchups. And something about an angry guy and an L1 getting in your face and telling you you’re scummy can do a pretty good job of convincing you that you are.

Quarterfinals: It’s a guy I know. He usually plays Jund or Humans. I don’t know what he’s on, but Jund is a way worse matchup for me, so I evaluate my hand based on that assumption. It’s solid against Jund, but also bonkers against humans—a turn two Spell Queller is amazing when they play between three and five kill spells in the 75. They’re the number one seed, so they play first. They go Unclaimed Territory into Hierarch. I smile, play a Botanical Sanctum, and a Hierarch. They play a Mantis Rider, I leave up Spell Queller mana, cast it on their whatever (I think it was Phantasmal Image) and CoCo on their next turn. Again I win by being fake fish.
Game Two: They curve Hierarch into Mantis Rider a second time, and I’m unable to find a lord. I get hit for four twice, then five. I keep beating down with a Mausoleum Wanderer with Exalted triggers, but I really don’t want to block the Exalted rider with my two loaded Spell Quellers. One of them is exiling a Thalia’s Lieutenant that I absolutely cannot allow to resolve. I topdeck a lord, and am forced to block with the other Queller (I think it was a Phantasmal Image) and the Lord. He kills the Queller, which I think was the fatal mistake. I alpha strike a few turns later.
Sideboarding was the same as Match Three.

Semifinals: I was the last Quarterfinals match to finish. “Do you want to split and get $200?” The Amulet player asks on behalf of the group, sitting across from me. The Fish player and a fourth person nod. Fish guy lives two hours away, and I know Amulet guy just wants planeswalker points. I want to be done, so I agree, and walk away with a cool $200.

This Evening: Magic is amazing. I love this game. This is my best finish in something like a year, and my biggest cash finish. It’s fun. It’s social. And experiences like my Round Four just suck. For *everyone involved*. I don’t understand the salt mine mentality. I don’t understand why people become so angry about a game. That’s what’s on my mind, to be honest. The fundamental unit of morality is not the match point. We have real moral and ethical obligations to each other beyond what exists in the Comprehensive Rules and the IPG. But at the same time, they are the social contract that governs the Magic Space. I like the guy I played against round four, and I genuinely don’t believe I angle shot him. I tried to apologize after the round, but again, he left in quite a hurry. Maybe the HJ was right, and I’m not cut out to be a Judge, because this situation makes me profoundly uncomfortable.
As for the Top 4, I’m elated. I’m really proud of what I managed to do today. It’s a literal and metaphorical win at a time when I personally really needed one, and I did it with a deck that I love to play, that I feel like I have mastery over, and I would be lying if I didn’t say that I was proud it wasn’t Tier One. The Modern meta today felt really good. Overall, I reminded myself that I’m actually pretty good at this game, and that’s something to be proud of.
Let’s see if they keep my dumb, conspiracy theory-fueled deck name when the store posts lists tomorrow.

Going Forward: I should have been on UW Spirits today. Collected Company won me games, but a grindier, more reliable card advantage engine such as Copter or Obsession would have been nice. Mainboard Thalias would have drastically improved the winrate, and a less painful manabase would have been amazing. I would have loved to have access to Mutavault as well. I knew in advance that I wanted to be on UW, but I wasn’t able to find the manabase in time. Maybe I’ll buy Seachromes and Mutavaults with some of the prize money, but it’ll probably pay for books next semester.
There is a space between “Angle Shooting” and “Letting people do whatever they want”. I want to live more unambiguously in that space. Maybe there was something that I could have said, like “I just want to make sure the stack is clear to both of us, I have effects” that could have avoided Neoform Guy becoming upset. I do understand why he could have become upset. Maybe this really and truly isn’t my concern—everyone who actually saw it happen said that I didn’t do anything. This is why I said that I don’t think of myself as a Spike though. Greatness is not worth any cost. It is worth some costs—I gave up Saturday with my family and/or girlfriend, $30 for entry, and cleaning my room for the opportunity to compete. The fact that our top four decided to split largely so that someone could get home in time for dinner give me a lot of faith in humanity, actually. Maybe ‘not being clear that I wanted to try to redirect the Lightning Storm’ was somehow closer to angle shooting than I realize. But I feel like we should pay more attention to [[Lurebound Scarecrow]] than [[Dark Confidant]].

2019.05.03 12:38 Palidane7 The Good and the Bad of the New Ravnica Novel

The Ravnica novel has been out for about a week now, and the reviews aren't good. People have been posting excerpts here on /magictcg and the consensus is that it is rushed and poorly written. The vast majority of fans haven't read the novel, and will get their opinions of it from the posts here and on other sites. This is a problem, because this is the first Magic novel published in a decade, and Wizards will be paying very close attention to its reception, which will influence whether or not we see more of them. Put simply, there's a difference between something being rejected because of its flaws and being rejected because it was meme-ed to death the day after it came out.
As a Vorthos, I want to see more (and better) novels set in the Magic universe, which means I want to give Wizards as solid and concrete feedback as possible. I am absolutely part of the consensus that was very disappointed with Ravnica, but that doesn't mean it was worthless or that I didn't enjoy it. I want to give the book a fair hearing, but since it’s such a mixed bag, I thought I would go through what I liked and what I didn't like. This is all my personal opinion, but maybe it will help you figure out whether or not the book is worth your money and time.
The Bad: The First Half
Most of what you've heard about the bad writing is true. There's no way to defend it, in the first half of the novel, I was highlighting sections that were [[Avacyn's Collar]]-tier. Indefensible, clunky exposition, everything feels stilted and forced, and there is no logical reason for anything that happens besides plot contrivance. There are good moments, which I will get too, but overall, the first half is some of the worst writing Magic has ever seen.
The Good: The Second Half
Once the God Eternals show up, however, Jace pulls everyone back and we get a group strategy session. They list six different goals that will have to be accomplished in order to save the day, and the break up the planeswalkers into teams to accomplish them. The second act doesn't start until halfway through, but from there, the narrative really finds its groove and improves tremendously. The plot picks up momentum and you are able to see the Gatewatch gradually gain the upper hand. After the halfway point, I stopped highlighting awful passages and started highlighting great ones. There are still bad moments, plenty of them, but I went from cringing at the book to legitimately enjoying it.
The Bad: The story beats from the cards are either absent or glossed over.
If you were looking at the cards, or the Story Scenes on the Wizards website, you might think that Feather arriving with the Parhelion II was a huge moment worthy of cheers. Yeah, no. We get one line mentioning the Parhelion II five minutes after Bolas touches down, and Feather isn't brought up at all. Did you want to see the moment that Nahiri and Sorin saw each other? You don’t get it, they get seen from a distance in a single sentence, then apparently patch things up to cameo in the final battle. Greg Weisman did not feel obliged to tell the same story the game developers were trying to tell.
The Good: All the Guilds get some spotlight
Honestly, I was super worried the Planeswalker war would overshadow the native Ravnicans, but that is not the case at all. On multiple occasions, the action stops and wet get a rundown of where all the guilds are and what they are doing. They are all active and engaged participants, and Weisman captures their nuances and individual quirks very well. There is one scene I remember when Ral Zarek is trying to depower the beacon, which is guarded by Azorius soldiers and Izzet scientists. Ral is overcharging his battery and about to explode, and while the Azorius guards get nervous and take a step back, the Izzet guards smirk at them - and then eye each other nervously. It was only a single line, but it showed both the Izzet's comfort with dangerous and explosion-prone experiments and that Ral's actions were well beyond that comfort.
The Bad: But the spotlight is super watered down
Some of the guilds get more focus than others. The Izzet and the Rakdos are the big winners, in my eyes, with the Orzhov right behind them, but the Simic get the least focus, with the Golgari and the Selesnyans just above them. When Bolas strikes, the Simic, Boros, and Izzet immediately stand together against him. Because these three aren't causing problems, they don't need to be recruited, which means they get less screen time. However, Izzet Guildmaster Ral Zarek is a central character, and Guildmaster Aurelia gets a weird amount of focus, more so than most of the Planeswalkers. This means the poor Simic are mostly reduced to descriptions of their soldiers in battle. That's what they get for doing the right thing.
The Good: Jace is portrayed very well.
Jace's depiction in Dominaria was disastrous, and I was worried he would completely backslide from Ixalan. Thankfully, besides a single line of dialogue that irritated me, Jace in Ravnica is actually great. He refuses to play second fiddle to Gideon and really steps up as co-leader, behaving as a Guildpact should for the first time in his life. He wrestles with his affection for Liliana the whole book, but when the moment arrives, he joins an assassination team along with Jaya, Teferi, and Vivien Reid to take her down. He's not happy about it, but Jace honestly tries his best to kill her, and it is one of the best scenes in the entire book. I'm very happy with his portrayal here, and can't wait to see where he goes next.
The Bad: Vraska's portrayal is unbelievably bad.
Ok, I'm not sure how much of this is from the Wexler stories, so I won't blame Weisman exclusively for it, but Vraska's story is an abomination. Holy shit, unless I'm missing something, this is the single worst characterization I have seen in Magic lore. Vraska got her memories back, knew full well everything that was happening, and still petrified Isperia and allowed Bolas to take over. When the story begins, she is back on Ixalan partying with her pirate crew. Then she shows back up and decides to retake the Golgari throne and fight Bolas for 0 reason. Then her and Jace become an item. If the Magic writers have any sense, they will retcon the shit out of this and never, ever mention it again.
The Good: Teyo is pretty cool.
The new guy is a lot of fun! Teyo's power is strictly defensive, and the poor bastard gets thrown into the meat grinder immediately. But he really rises to the challenge and earns the respect of some veteran Planeswalkers. He even saves the day a few times, with a few clutch shields. There's a moment after Kaya swears her Gatewatch Oath that Teyo is tempted to step forward and swear his own. He is interrupted, but I really wanted him to do it. I want to see more Teyo, and if Gideon needs an heir, I can think of no finer candidate than Teyo Verada, Shieldmage of Gobakhan and Savior of the Guildpact!
The Bad: Rat is pretty much wasted.
Oof. Rat gets too much screen time and has too much relevance to the plot. She has this weird magic ability where people cannot perceive her and will walk right into her if she doesn't move. It's pretty strong, to the point that her own father can't see her unless he knows she's there, but there isn't really an explanation given for it, and we haven't really seen anything like it before. It winds up feeling like a huge distraction, which is a shame, because I think her portrayal could have been really thought-provoking if Weisman had tied it in with her Gateless identity. Tone down the magic and just say that in the City of Guilds, to be Gateless is to be invisible. She could have really represented the average citizen of Ravnica with just a few alterations, but instead, she is an unwelcome intruder into the narrative.
The Good: Dack Fayden's storyline is freaking awesome!
I don't know what to tell you, despite the million problems this book has, Dack Fayden's arc is incredible. I might change my mind on a reread, but off the top of my head, it's right up there with some of the best Magic writing we've ever had. Dack is a thief, not a warrior, but as the book progresses, we see him hero-up an inch at a time. In a fantastic sequence, him, Karn, Samut, and Ob Nixilis sneak through the Planar Portal to Amonkhet to jump Tezzeret and shut down the bridge. Once on the other side, Ob Nixilis planeswalks to safety immediately, and though Dack is tempted, he can't do it. He returns with the others, and then when the Immortal Sun is disabled, he refuses to give up the fight. In the flavor text for [[Pledge of Unity]], Gideon says "No one hero will save this day. Today we must all be heroes." If there is one thing Ravnica got right, it was that feeling, and no one embodied it better than the Greatest Thief in the Multiverse. I didn't know anything about Dack Fayden before this novel, but by the end, he was my favorite character in it.
The Bad: Weisman completely missed Gideon’s arc and personality.
This one hurts. You should know I am biased as hell, because Gideon is my favorite character, and I've been preparing to write a eulogy for him. But man, Weisman just did not understand the character at all. Gideon reads like a caricature of himself, a dumb meathead with a good heart and no common sense. Like Captain America written by someone who hated Captain America. The author forgets his relationship with Chandra, forgets his skepticism of Liliana, but weirdly makes him and Aurelia BFFs? His epic charge at Bolas is told from everyone's perspective but his own, and while his sacrifice is passable, his reunion in the afterlife makes no sense and is shockingly dissonant with who he is. For God's sake, his last thoughts are about how it doesn't matter whether his friends live or die because the hereafter isn’t so bad. I'll leave it at that, before I go on a rant.
The Good: Weisman juggles all the Planeswalkers really well.
Weisman had 36 planeswalkers to juggle, and though he couldn't manage them all, I was very impressed by the results nonetheless. There were some losers: Narset, and Tibalt get only a single mention, and Ashiok doesn't even get that, but Weisman does an excellent job weaving the rest in and out of the narrative. I would search on my kindle for a character's name and find they were only mentioned four or five times, but the way Weisman spaces it out, I felt like they had a much larger presence in the story. Angrath gets some great moments, but so does Karn, Samut, Saheeli Rai, Vivien Reid, Teferi, the Wanderer...the list goes on. I've been hard on him, but it must be said: for someone brand new to the IP, he tackled one of the story's hardest aspects with aplomb.
The Bad: But he goes overboard sometimes.
The pressure to fit in enough references does become overbearing at times. It did not bother me outside a few moments, but in those moments, well... I'll just leave this here:
Then Teyo, Rat, Kaya, Vivien, Angrath, Saheeli, Niv-Mizzet, Teferi, Vraska, Jaya, Karn, Ral, Tomik, Lavinia, Ajani and Jace watched as Aurelia, Chandra and Nissa lovingly wrapped Gideon's armor in the leaves.
Yeah.
The Good: Ral gets a great storyline.
I really liked Ral. He spends the entire story in a tumultuous mix of emotions, including depression for enabling Bolas' takeover, anxiety over his partner Tomik, and fury at Vraska for betraying him. He comes off as very vulnerable and likeable; a man that fate has conspired to screw over and deny at every opportunity. But no matter how bleak it looks, he always pushes forward, and refuses to forsake his responsibility as Guildmaster. He adds a welcome personal touch to the struggle, and though his relationship with Tomik is only touched upon, it makes for one of the sweetest moments in the book. He also gets a badass moment or three: I'm not big on how Weisman handled scenes from the cards, but he absolutely nailed [[Bolt Bend]].
The Bad: Liliana's arc is really up and down.
I think Liliana spends most of the book standing in a single spot in the middle of the Guildpact's plaza. Her interactions with Jace and Gideon are pretty good, but her interactions with Bolas are dull and repetitive. For every good moment, there is an equally bad moment, and her amazing betrayal of Bolas comes off as more ambivalent than anything. I fear that when we next see her, Liliana will not have developed at all from who she was before the War of the Spark.
The Good: The Rebirth of Niv-Mizzet is epic.
This was a scene that could only be described as cinematic. Nissa Revane presides over a magic ritual that involves representatives from all 10 guilds, reshaping Ravnica's leylines to converge on the bones of Niv-Mizzet. We get lots of juicy tension from having all these people in one room, especially when some guilds are not contributing to the war effort. Eventually though, they settle down, and Nissa begans to attune herself to Ravnica. Light flows into the room, white, blue, black, red, and green, circling each of the representatives in a haunting moment of profound unity. And then freaking Kefnet shows up at the worst possible moment to ruin everything. It's a fantastic chapter that had me on the edge of my seat, and really encapsulated the themes of the War of the Spark.
The Bad: Nissa's arc is a dumpster fire.
Nissa stormed away from the Gatewatch on Dominaria, and in the first few chapters of Ravnica, we learn that Jace spent weeks hunting her down and days trying to reason with her, to no avail. It looks like she would be sitting this one out, but 30 minutes later, she's on Ravnica waking up Vitu-Ghazi and making Treebeard feel insecure. What changed her mind? Damned if I know. Weisman doesn't even pretend to give us a reason. Then towards the climax, Nissa repeats the oath she swore and joins back up, as if nothing happened. What Dominaria did to Jace, Ravnica did to Nissa, but unlike with Jace, this is not ignorable. Maybe if we're lucky, someone will actually call out Nissa for bailing in the sequel, but I doubt it. Another intriguing character moment thrown away to get everyone where they needed to be.
The Good: Weisman goes all in on the Lazav memes
The fandom makes jokes about everyone is secretly Lazav, but here, it's actually true. There are multiple moments where different characters all morph into Lazav, and every time it is sudden, unforeseeable, and hysterical. Some of them are epic and some of them are funny, but all three caught me off guard and provided some much needed levity. Hats off to Weisman, I hope other writers continue to embrace Lazav's flair for the dramatic.
The Bad: Nicol Bolas is the most horrible, cliche villain you will ever see.
I'll say at the top that I don't hold Weisman responsible for this. Nicol Bolas has always been threatening and has usually been fun, but he has never been interesting. He's an arrogant, narcisstic jackass that is incapable of speaking a sentence without belittling someone. What is the goal of his plan? Godlike power. What proves his undoing? His pride and the power of friendship. We've seen this a thousand times before. In fairness, Ugin actually gives a pretty satisfying summary of all his little mistakes in Ravnica's last chapter, but towards the end of the book, Bolas becomes totally insufferable. He starts using the royal "we" and SPEAKING IN ALL CAPS LIKE THIS, but it doesn't make me hate him, it just makes me hate the book. What makes it worse is that Bolas literally does not move from the book's opening chapter to its ending. He spends the whole book on his throne talking about how great he is, like a parody of final boss in a video game killing time before the hero shows up. I'm grateful he's still in the storyline, as I would love to see Jace drop by his prison to try and get info from him, but he was way too shallow to carry the villain load in a story of this size.
The Good: The Planeswalker-Ravnica divide is handled really well
MaRo has said the most of the sparks we see flying toward Bolas are all from generic, unnamed planeswalkers, and when I first heard that, I thought it sounded unbelievably lame. But Weisman actually does a wonderful job explaining it. They don't feel like nameless extras, characters are constantly pausing to notice the Eternals rip the life out of new arrivals. There is a great scene where an invisible Jace forces himself to watch, noting every victim as the Eternals rip out their souls. Weisman also gives us a very realistic dynamic between the native Ravnicans and the imprisoned Planeswalkers. In the big group-planning meeting, one of the Planeswalkers suggests hiding while Bolas destroys Ravnica and fleeing when he gets tired and disables the Immortal Sun to leave. That doesn't go over well, and Vorel of the Simic suggests rounding up all the Planeswalkers and delivering them to Bolas as a peace offering. Jace is able to smooth things over, but later, we get descriptions of them begrudgingly fighting beside one another. Because the Eternals only have to touch the Planeswalkers to kill them, the Planeswalker want to hang back and lob ranged attacks, leaving the Ravnicans to die on the front lines.
Except for Angrath. That crazy motherfucker charges in swinging his flaming chains like a bull in a lazotep shop! Weisman really lingers on this dynamic, and does a superb job depicting something that could have easily been passed over. It makes it all the more impactful when we see the Ravnicans and the Planeswalker fighting side by side in the assault on Bolas' Citadel.
The Bad: The timeline is unbelievably short.
The story begins with Teyo Verada getting lost in a sandstorm on his home plane and planeswalking to Ravnica. This is a line from the final chapter:
And then suddenly, it hit him like a diamondstorm that it had been less than a day since he'd left Gobakhan.
My reaction when I first read this line was loud, incredulous, and unkind, but thankfully, I did some more research before posting this. On Mark Rosewater’s tumblr, he revealed that this was the creative team’s decision, not Greg Weisman’s. This is an excellent example of why we need to be slow to assign blame to any particular party for problems in the story. But regardless, this decision is completely nonsensical. It is ridiculous to think that the entire War of the Spark could have been missed by a heavy sleeper who works the night shift. From the flavor text on the cards, it seems very clear that this is a war that is taking place over months, with battles ebbing and flowing through different neighborhoods. Why would you condense everything down into such an absurd time frame? The entire plot falls apart due to this one sentence. What, did Kaya and Ral hit up six different guild headquarters, that are on completely opposite sides of a war-torn city, in as many hours? All 10 guilds mobilized and deployed within a handful of hours? What, was Nicol Bolas ascension to godhood just another rowdy afternoon on Ravnica? I can’t imagine how anyone could justify or defend this decision.
In the end, I felt the book was below average, but not horrible. I wrote a review of all the Magic Story arcs since Zendikar, and I'd put this below all of them except Dominaria. Even when I was rolling my eyes, I was still engaged with the book and eager to see what would come next. I don’t regret reading it, and though I wouldn't pay $15 for it, I would have paid $5. There is a lot of good stuff in here, and most of the rest is passable. I hope Greg Weisman takes this opportunity to regroup and build on the success of this novel in the sequel, while hopefully avoiding the major pitfalls. I feel like Wizards can't improve their storytelling unless we first give them the chance to improve, and part of that is giving constructive feedback.
As for you, I hope this post gave you a better sense of the book's strength and weaknesses, whether or not you would like it, and what it might mean for the trajectory of the Magic story. Everything I have written is extremely subjective, so I will be happy to answer questions or read alternative opinions from the rest of the community.

2018.11.01 08:31 critoprito Mga Mahihirap Madami Kung Manganak

No offense.
Yan yung at some point medyo mararamdaman mo talagang may pinapaaral at pinapakain kang pamilya.
I understand most of them hindi nakapag aral pero madali namang intindihin at gawin ang natural contraceptive/family planning.
  3. Totally oblivious sila sa human reproduction/reproductive system?
  4. None of the above. Ano opinions nyo?

2018.08.26 07:41 KuroKitten [Duel] Aminatou, the Fateshifter Brew - Thoughts?

Update (2018/09/21): Thanks to some great advice from many who commented, and some playtesting with an alternative non-combo brew, I've decided that this build isn't optimal for a 1v1 Duel CommandeFrench EDH environment. I've also come to realize that certain ways of comboing with two cards don't work as expected, making it even harder to pull off.
I'll leave everything below for posterity's sake (with a minor correction about that combo), but if you're interested in optimizing Aminatou like I am, I would instead look more towards a traditional control strategy where you use her -1 ability to break certain already great cards like Planeswalkers, Palace Jailer, Parallax Wave, and so on to generate value. I'll eventually make a follow up post when I test that build more, and update this post with a link.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

When I first saw Aminatou, the Fateshifter, not only did I love her flavor and quirky ability set, I also thought there might be some serious potential to brew a top tier Duel/French Commander deck with her. So, I wanted to give it a shot and see how far I could take her. I'm curious to know what others think, and especially interested in discussion around the following topics:
So, without further adieu, let's get in to Aminatou!

General Gameplan

Here's the Decklist - Everything in the sideboard is a strong contender for inclusion; everything in the maybe board is probably not good enough, but there for consideration anyway.
The basic idea of the deck is to utilize both the first and second abilities of Aminatou to control the game until you can secure a win condition. The deck relies on four main win conditions in decreasing order of quality:
  1. Felidar Guardian, Aminatou/Restoration Angel/Animate Dead/Dance of the Dead/Parallax Wave, and Altar of the Brood/Genesis Chamber for an infinite flicker combo. Edit: I don't believe the two reanimate enchantments work like I thought. See mistakai**'s reply** here.
  2. Felidar Guardian, Aminatou, and Oath of Teferi to infinitely flicker some fourth target, abusing infinite activations of planeswalkers/ETB effects until you can win the game somehow.
  3. Equip an evasive creature with Umezawa's Jitte/Sword of Feast and Famine and swing.
  4. Activate Aminatou's third ability, and use cards like Teferi's Protection (lul), Gilded Drake, Parallax Wave, Kaya, Ghost Assassin, and others to keep/get your permanents back.
Unfortunately, Felidar Guardian is the linchpin to options 1 or 2, and losing him is a big blow to the efficacy of the deck. The deck runs some reanimation (which thankfully contributes to the combo) for situations where Felidar Guardian is countered, discarded, or killed; however, an exiled Felidar is gone for good. This means it's best to either play Felidar the same turn you're going to combo, or if you cast the combo over multiple turns, cast him as the final piece.
If, however, you do lose Felidar Guardian, then you've no choice but to play a standard control game and win through either option 3 or 4 - neither of which are bad, but both of which are slower, and easier to deal with. Luckily, abusing Aminatou's second ability can lead to some pretty powerful effects (especially with other planeswalkers), and she's immune to most board wipes - so playing a strong control game and winning by option 3 or 4 isn't out of the question.
When mulliganing, you should be looking for combo pieces in your opening hand. Combos are your primary way of winning, so opening hands with none - or, at least, no methods of searching for them - are generally weak. Second best hands are those with counter magic and card draw. Counter magic can buy time, and allows Aminatou to hit safely, while most of the card draw synergizes with her first ability to aggressively dig for important combo pieces or search spells.

Notable Card Choices

For the most part, this deck is a very standard Esper Control Goodstuff deck. If you've looked at any of the top Partner archetypes that share colors with Aminatou, you'll see a lot of familiar faces: All of the one mana draw spells, the 4 best discard spells, 10+ counterspells, 4-ish board wipes, and a top 30 list of dual lands. Those cards show up in top lists for a reason, and all of those reasons still apply to Aminatou; however, there are a few card choices which synergize more directly with our specific game plan:
Oath of Teferi - This obviously functions nicely with our Commander, mostly by letting us bounce and draw in the same turn; however, the real strength of this card is with Felidar Guardian on the field, letting us -1 to flicker one permanent first, and then -1 to flicker Felidar, who then flickers and resets Aminatou. Rinse & Repeat. This is clunkier than the main artifact combo, but it serves as an effective backup plan if you can't get either of the artifacts for some reason, and can still be searched for by Enlightened Tutor. The following targets essentially win you the game when flickered infinitely: Baleful Strix, Vendilion Clique, Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, and Zhalfirin Void all draw/search your deck for anything; Teferi and Liliana of the Veil shutdown your opponent's board until you can find a way win; and Kaya, Ghost Assassin full stop wins the game.
Genesis Chamber - This is weaker than Altar of the Brood, and you should always prefer Atlar over this card; however, having two combo cards lets you better utilize Intuition, and provides a backup plan for decks with cards that prevent/avoid/abuse decking. It's also relatively cheap to cast, and can still be found by Enlightened Tutor.
Muddle the Mixture - Counter magic at two is great, and this hits some very important cards in the deck: Genesis Chamber, Animate Dead/Dance of the Dead, Balance, Jitte/Stoneforge, and Gilded Drake. To find literally anything else in your deck, grab Demonic Tutor/Tainted Pact.
Reveillark - I'm undecided on whether this makes the cut or not, but it does reanimate Felidar if needed, allows you to recur certain strong ETB creatures, and is a strong equip target.
Spellseeker - This is really strong when activated multiple times with Aminatou, and also hits some important cards: Enlightened Tutor, Demonic Tutor/Tainted Pact, Balance, and Reanimate.
Parallax Wave - Already a great card that gets even greater when you can constantly reset it. Not only does it contribute to the combo, but you can also lock down four enemy creatures each turn, changing them around if higher-threat targets hit the board later; just be careful to avoid or manage enemy targets which benefit from being flickered. If needed, you can also use it on your own creatures to flicker multiple targets with a single -1 activation, or to return your creatures after an activation of Aminatou's third ability.
Intuition - As I'll get into shortly, Intuition is an extremely powerful search spell which, when played correctly, can almost always find the exact combo pieces you're missing.

Intuition Searches

Speaking of Intuition, this is one of the stronger search spells in the deck - arguably better than Demonic Tutor. It can be played EoT on your opponent's turn when you have enough mana to combo immediately after. This allows you to leave mana open for countermagic, and if none is needed, will often lead to surprise "So, I win?" moments.
While the combos themselves always require more than two cards, each combo essentially has two halves: an infinite flicker effect, and some way of abusing infinite flickers to generate advantage. When using Intuition, you should ask yourself which half you already have, and which three cards can guarantee you get the other half. Below are all of the search combinations I know of to get either half of the combo. If I've missed any, let me know and I'll update the list.
Need a Flicker Wincon
Need an Infinite Flicker
Edit: I don't believe the two reanimate enchantments work like I thought. See mistakai**'s reply** here.

Closing Thoughts

In the end, as someone who doesn't usually enjoy brewing decks, I have to admit this has been a fun project. She's a really fun control/combo commander to play with, and I feel like I arrived at something at least in the general neighborhood of her "optimal build". That said, I still have a few questions about exactly which cards to include in the mainboard, especially when it comes to those listed in the Sideboard.
What do you think?

2017.05.21 04:08 bobomosir bi guys out there... how can you f*cking do it?

Still discreet among friends and I really don't see myself opening up yet.
Met a couple of guys pero hanggang ONS lang. No butts, just good oral fun (not really an anal guy). At everytime na natatapos kami, I really love the feeling of hugging each other out, holding hands, and talking about anything.
I want someone to talk to, text everyday kung kamusta na siya, and lambingin everytime he needs that special treatment. The only problem is I just wanna do it discreetly.
Another problem is my preference. I'm not really sure why pero I feel bad about it. I'm not sure if sobra ba akong mapili kaya wala rin ako makita for me. (I do feel ashamed of myself kasi feeling ko talaga ito dahilan kung bakit hindi ako makahanap ng for me.)
When comes to attitude naman ay okay ako. I really can't say pero I think I'm pretty fine.
So successful Bi Guys out there na happily taken, how can you f*cking do it? Can you help a loner redditor out?

2017.03.01 20:27 MediocreToenail Hot Gay Fanfiction

So as asked for on podcast #11, I have quickly written some hot gay fanfiction. Feel free to add some more hot gay adventures.
Kaya's Dream: Charlie walked through the war torn shit-hole that is Turkey looking for his long lost love, Kaya. He checked his map to make sure he was going in the right direction only to see that the buildings that were supposed to be here were now reduced to rubble. As he approached the blast zone that used to be Kaya's house he saw a stray dog, or just a regular dog in Turkey terms, eating at the decayed corpse of a Turkish child. As his eyes moved across the barren landscape he suddenly felt an erection coming on, and he knew what is meant. His erection pointed dead East set on a eroded hospital. He ran towards it with all his might, his short little legs leaving the ground so his dick could propel him along. Faster and faster he went until he was 20 feet from the hospital. He looked towards the dark entrance. His nipples lactated and his eyes diluted. From the black doorway emerged a hard erect cock, a string of precum dribbling down onto the ground. Behind that giant god-like hard-as-diamond erect cock was Kaya. His gorgeous naked body displayed his smooth nipples and his tanned skin. Charlie was so moist he made the Amazon Jungle jealous. For a few moments there was dead silence before the two men sprang to each other in a warm embrace, just the tips of their penises touching while they locked bodies. "I thought you'd never come..." Kaya whispered into Charlie's ear drawing a slight smile from Charlie. "Well I'm here to cum again." Charlie whispered back. In three quick movements Kaya's head was down on the ground with his ass up in the air. Charlie admired the perfectly round ass before giving it a tender slap. Charlies clothes started to lightly burn up as the two of them got hot and moist. He dropped his pants and toyed with Kaya's asshole making Kaya moan with joy. "Charlie quit teasing me you fucking piece of shit." He growled. "Oh yeah you like that you fucking homunculus?" Charlie replied before reaching down and massaging Kaya's scrotum making his smooth nipples moisten. Charlie lightly thrust into Kaya's ass, the veins in his penis bulging under the immense pressure. "After this I'm going to eat you out like a watermelon." Kaya moaned. That remark made Charlie smirk before going all in. His cock flew in and out of Kaya's ass at mach 5. The two men roared with pleasure. "Charlie my insides have never felt this touched!" Kaya said. "My lord Kaya you're ass hairs are giving me max stimulation!" Charlie yelled out. The thrusting went on for another 30 seconds before Charlies face went completely red, his lip bleeding from the force he was biting down on. "I-I'M C-C-CUMMING!" Charlie screamed as he tried to pull out. "Charlie your massive erect penis is stuck in my hairy ass!" Kaya yelled in panic. It was too late. Charlie busted a load so big Kaya swelled up like a balloon. Charlie tried harder to pull out, landing a successful strike so that he could. His dick was stilling firing semen like a howitzer. He aimed at Kaya's face and fired 3 shots, two hitting Kaya's eyes and a third one going straight down his throat. Kaya lapped up the jizz while Charlie continued to act like a fire hose. "Charlie! You gotta taste some straight from the tap quickly!" Kaya said in delight. Charlie aimed his dick to his mouth and fired straight up, realizing too late that the force that the cum was being shot was enough to destroy a fleet of ships. His head snapped back the moment his semen his and his legs buckled. His genitals ripped from his body and slammed into the ground becoming a white bloody mess. Charlies broken neck swayed side to side for a few moments before he fell to the ground in front of Kaya, dead. Kaya continued to stare for a few moments before tears welled up in his eyes and he crawled over to his dead partner. "Oh Charlie please no! I can't go on without you!" Kaya said. When no reply came Kaya looked up into the sky. "YOU BASTARD! HOW COULD YOU! WHY!" He yelled. He sat in silence for a long time. At one point he could hear the faint noise of a taxi pulling up and someone stepping out. "There he is! Get him!" Screamed a man in a ski mask holding a kalashnikov. He aimed at Kaya and fired a single shot that went right between Kaya's eyes and out the back of his head, pulling some brains with it. As Kaya's view faded he heard himself give a scream, and the last thing he remembered was that Dragon Age Origins scream.
In pace requiescat!
